Sock It up!

I write about the serious issues. This piece is no different. If serious isn’t want you want right now, look away, don’t continue because this takes mental power, deep thinking and it will change you and the way you see the world forever.

This is a complex issue that can be divisive among many.  It is something that has bothered me for quite some time, but I have ignored it, ignored my social justice responsibility but I can no longer do this. It is time for me to speak out.

WTF is with this recent craze of socks?

 Yes, socks.

I mean we go from hiding any sign of socks, with ‘no show’ socks under our shoes, as if they are shameful to be seen. Like socks are appalling and wearing them is a necessity we can’t admit to.

Now it is all about big, bold socks with statement prints from avocados, to cheese wedges, to your pet’s face. You can get socks with practically anything printed on them and showing these visuals to everyone seems to be the aim of the game. No more hiding, socks are out of the shoe and ready to be seen.

Shorts with your socks pulled up your leg, avocados in full view are on trend, the crazier the colours or the print, the better.

If these statement fashion sock pieces aren’t quite right for you don’t worry because you can get this must have item of your wardrobe in designer style. Gucci, Prada, Burberry, whichever fashion house is you, there are sock options. Ranging anywhere from $100- $400 dollars a pair you can fill that sock drawer full of designer options for a classy statement piece. Just don’t lose them in the washing machine!

Or if you enjoy supporting emerging designers, don’t fear there are options for that too. In fact, so is ‘haute footure’, which includes sheer, delicate footwear available from Sydney designer ‘Socc Socks’.  At a price of $30- $70 a pair they are much more affordable and perhaps more of a discussion point with your sock wearing buddies. They also a great supporting local choice if that’s your thing.

Before I get unfairly judged for being a sock hater I want to state that I actually really love socks. I understand that socks are a fundamental wardrobe item and I hate having cold feet, so I totally value their importance. I guess I am just confused about the sock world, where one minute socks are best hidden, the next they need to be your statement piece but I guess I’ll just have to ‘sock’ it up.
